FOUR KILLED IN KAPEDO, BARELY A WEEK AFTER A PEACE MEETING.

Tension is high in Kapedo after four people were killed by armed bandits, barely a week after a peaceful peace meeting which happened in the area.

While confirming the fateful incident, area assistant chief Mercy Asmit, said the attack happened today early morning when a total of 25 young men were going to collect firewood and that was when they were ambushed by armed bandits which saw four people lose their lives.

"Due to the insecurity situation in this part, it is always the duty of men to go and look for firewood and the young men were on their normal duties when they were attacked" she revealed.

She further went ahead saying that the deceased include a form one student and a form two student.

At the same time, she said that security officers are still combing the bush where the attack happened to see if there are other fatalities and also as they pursue the criminals who are still at large.

On sunday, over 200 livestock were stolen by unknown attackers barely a day after the peace meeting.

This latest attack has thwarted the several peace campaigns which have been held in the area by local leaders and county security bosses.

On saturday, a peace meeting chaired by Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya saw leaders from the two warring communities vow to bring to an end the animosity in the region.

Peace in the volatile area seems to be a far fetched dream as two warring communities continue to contest the 18 hectors piece of land as they exchange gunfire.
