OVER 200 LIVESTOCK STOLEN IN KAPEDO  RAID BARELY A DAY AFTER SECURITY MEETING.



Barely a day after leaders from the north rift and team of security officers led by Rift valley regional commissioner George Natembeya held a security peace meeting at Kapedo, insecurity still persists.


This is after armed raiders from a nearby community raided and stole over 200 livestock.


According to Silale ward MCA Nelson Lotela another group of raiders attacked Nadome region in what is believed to be a planned twin attack and made away with 200 goats.


Lotela fears for a number of youthful who have gone to pursue the raiders since they have lost communication with them owing to poor phone network. Gunshots could though be heard from a distance. 


Two warring communities are contesting the Kapedo border ,18 Hector's piece of land which has led to Chemolingot_Kapedo road not impassable to locals for over a decade,making life unbearable for residents accessing food,water,medication and schools as four schools in Kapedo were closed following the rivalry over contested border between Baringo and Turkana county.


Security officers were not spared either,in November 1 2014 ,22 Gsu officers who were on their way to rescue a lorry which was set ablaze were ambushed and shot dead by bandits at Kasarani along Kapedo Lomelo road.This lead to president touring the area and ordering mobbing out of illegal guns,the area since then have not have peace as killings of locals and security officers continued.


Yesterday's peace meeting saw Tiaty member of parliament William Kamket and Turkana East mp shake hands at Kapedo ,a gesture believed was to bring to an end the animosity that have lasted for decades.


The two leaders vowed to speak to their people together on series of peace meeting from Silale to lomelo the belt common with violence.


The council of Governors of NOREB said Baringo and Turkana have the opportunity to transform the nation as the country power house owing to resources such as Geothermal energy which is estimated to be 3000 mW and oil found lokichar if only guns could be silenced.


West pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo said the peace initiative they started in kainuk and Turkwel between west pokot and Turkana has bored fruits as residents are enjoying peace,he said if Baringo and Turkana can follow the same path and open up schools and road so as to benefit from resources endowed in the region,sustainable development will be achieved.



The month of November has been sensitive as insecurity has been on the rise towards festive season, in 2012 the same month police officers were killed in the Suguta valley.

Baringo Governor Stanley Kiptis urged residents in the border to live in harmony and border should not be used to bring animosity  


Rift valley regional commissioner George Natembeya during the meeting assured the locals that the government would tarmac Chemolingot to Lokichar road to open up the region to development, he urged all leaders to shun politics of incitements so as to be elected.
